Several terrorists were reportedly killed after Nigerian troops foiled an attempted attack in Borno State during a fresh military operation in the North-East.
According to reports, the insurgents launched an attack on soldiers stationed in the area, but the troops responded with intense firepower, forcing the attackers to flee. The military later carried out a follow-up operation around the scene, where more terrorists were neutralised.
Security sources said the operation also led to the recovery of weapons and other items abandoned by the fleeing fighters.
The incident is another sign of the continued battle between security forces and insurgent groups operating in parts of Borno State.
Despite repeated attacks by terrorists, troops have continued to intensify operations across the region in an effort to reduce their activities and restore normalcy.
Many residents in affected communities have remained worried over the security situation, especially with the recent rise in attacks in some parts of the North-East. However, military authorities insist that troops are making progress and putting pressure on the insurgents through sustained offensives.
The Nigerian military has also continued to encourage residents to support security agencies with timely information that could help prevent future attacks and improve safety in the region.
