Fresh controversy has emerged over allegations that former Anambra State governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, demolished mosques while in office.
However, the Obidient Movement has strongly rejected the claims, describing them as false and politically motivated.
The group insisted that Obi maintained cordial relationships with Muslim communities during his time as governor and never pursued policies that targeted any religious group.
Speaking on the issue, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, said attempts to portray Obi as anti-Muslim were part of a broader campaign to misrepresent his record ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to Tanko, Obi’s administration promoted religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence among residents of different faiths across Anambra State.
He argued that the former governor treated all citizens equally regardless of their religious background and worked to foster unity throughout his tenure.
The Obidient Movement further urged Nigerians to verify information before accepting political narratives circulating on social media and other platforms.
The group maintained that Obi’s public service record reflects inclusiveness, fairness and respect for diversity rather than discrimination.
As political discussions continue to intensify ahead of the next election cycle, the movement said voters should focus on verifiable facts and leadership records instead of unsubstantiated allegations.
The Obidient Movement therefore reaffirmed its position that claims linking Peter Obi to the demolition of mosques are inaccurate and do not reflect his relationship with Muslim communities during his years in office.
