As political activities ahead of the 2027 elections continue to gather momentum, some members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State have appealed to the party’s governorship candidate, Abubakar Malami, to select his running mate from Kebbi South.
The appeal was made by a group known as the ADC Unity Forum, which believes that choosing a deputy governorship candidate from the southern part of the state would promote fairness, inclusiveness, and a stronger sense of belonging among party supporters.
According to the group, the decision could also help strengthen the ADC’s chances in the 2027 governorship race by ensuring that all regions of the state feel adequately represented.
Paul Tase Suggested as Potential Running Mate
Speaking on the issue, members of the forum pointed to Paul Tase as a qualified individual who could fit the role.
They described him as an experienced administrator and economist with a track record in public service.
The group argued that Tase’s experience in governance and development matters would complement Malami’s leadership and contribute positively to the party’s vision for Kebbi State.
They also stressed that their call should not be seen as an attempt to pressure the party into making a particular choice.
Rather, they said it was part of ongoing discussions aimed at building a balanced and formidable ticket ahead of the election.
According to the forum, successful political campaigns are often built on unity, inclusion, and strategic partnerships. They noted that selecting a running mate from Kebbi South would send a strong message that every part of the state has a stake in the ADC’s future.
The group further called on party stakeholders to remain united and continue consultations as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.
The debate over who will emerge as Malami’s running mate has continued to generate interest since the former Attorney-General of the Federation secured the ADC governorship ticket. Political observers believe the eventual choice could play a significant role in shaping the party’s fortunes ahead of the polls.
For now, attention remains on Malami and the party leadership as supporters await a final decision on who will join the governorship candidate on the ADC ticket.
The Bigger Picture
While the ADC is yet to announce a running mate, the growing calls for representation from Kebbi South highlight the importance of political balance in the state’s electoral calculations. Whether Malami takes that route remains to be seen, but party members pushing for the move believe it could strengthen unity and boost confidence among voters ahead of 2027.
