Kano Fund Diversion: Gwarzo Challenges Gov Yusuf to Provide Evidence

The governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has challenged Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to provide evidence supporting allegations of Kano fund diversion involving his son.

The allegations were reportedly made by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, who claimed that local government funds were diverted to Gwarzo through his son, Mujahid Aminu Abdussalam.

Responding to the claims, Gwarzo, through his spokesperson, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, described the allegations as false, baseless and politically motivated.

He said anyone making such serious accusations should present credible evidence instead of relying on public statements.

According to Gwarzo, allegations alone are not enough to establish wrongdoing.

He maintained that anyone accusing him of financial misconduct has a responsibility to provide verifiable proof.

He also defended his record in public office, saying he served Kano State with integrity and remained committed to transparency, accountability and the rule of law throughout his time in government.

Furthermore, Gwarzo said the allegations would not distract him from his political ambitions or his commitment to serving the people of Kano State.

He insisted that the Kano fund diversion claims were aimed at damaging his reputation rather than presenting the facts.

The former deputy governor also called on the Kano State Government to either make public any documentary evidence supporting the allegations or stop making claims that could mislead residents and further increase political tension in the state.

According to the statement, Gwarzo believes political disagreements should be based on facts and evidence rather than unverified accusations.

He added that public officials have a duty to promote accountability while ensuring their statements are backed by proof.

Further details contained in the Daily Post report showed that the exchange is the latest in a series of political disagreements between Gwarzo and the Kano State Government.

The dispute has continued to generate reactions as both camps maintain their positions over the allegations.

Meanwhile, Gwarzo has continued to insist that the burden of proof rests on those making the allegations.

He said his reputation should not be damaged by claims that have not been supported with credible evidence.

For now, the Kano State Government has maintained its position, while Gwarzo continues to demand proof.

As political activities gather momentum in the state, the Kano fund diversion controversy is likely to remain a major talking point.
