Osun APC Council Officials Accuse Adeleke Government of Deepening Political Tension

Officials of the All Progressives Congress (APC) serving in local government councils across Osun State have accused Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration of worsening the state’s political crisis after a recent court ruling on the local government leadership dispute.

The officials spoke under the umbrella of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON). They claimed the state government is misrepresenting the court’s decision instead of working to restore calm.

APC says officials remain in office

According to the council officials, recent actions by the Adeleke administration could heighten political tension across the state.

They insisted they remain the legally recognised occupants of their offices. They also urged the state government to respect the judicial process rather than take steps that could spark another political confrontation.

Meanwhile, the officials appealed to residents to stay peaceful and avoid any action that could disrupt public order while the legal battle continues.

Court ruling fuels fresh disagreement

The latest dispute follows a Federal High Court judgment on the long-running battle over control of local government councils in Osun State.

Both the APC and the state government have welcomed the ruling. However, each side insists the judgment supports its position, leading to fresh disagreements.

Governor Adeleke recently asked security agencies to withdraw protection from the APC-backed council officials. He argued they no longer have a legal right to remain in office.

The APC rejected the governor’s position. The party accused his administration of taking actions that could further destabilise the state’s political environment.

Political tension continues

The latest exchange shows that the struggle over local government councils in Osun is far from over.

Despite the heated arguments, stakeholders have urged both sides to remain calm and allow the courts to settle the dispute in line with the rule of law.
