Fubara Steps Down From Rivers APC Governorship Race

Similac Fubara has officially withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 elections, a move that has stirred fresh political conversations across the state.

The governor made the announcement after days of growing political tension within the party. According to him, stepping away from the race was not an easy choice, but he believes peace and unity in Rivers State should come before personal ambition.

Fubara said he held several consultations with political allies, supporters, and family members before arriving at the decision. He explained that leadership sometimes requires making difficult sacrifices for the interest of the people.

While many of his supporters were expecting him to remain in the contest, the governor urged them to stay calm and continue supporting the party. He also promised to back whoever eventually emerges as the APC candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

The development has created fresh conversations within the Rivers political space, especially as another major figure in the party, Tonye Cole, also reportedly stepped down from the race.

Although Fubara did not go into full details about the reasons behind his withdrawal, he hinted that some political matters are better resolved quietly to avoid further tension in the state.

He also appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leadership of the APC for their support and understanding during the process.

With the 2027 elections gradually drawing attention across the country, political observers believe the latest development could reshape the power dynamics within the APC in Rivers State.
