Adeleke Backs Tinubu for 2027 After Winning Osun Election

Adeleke Backs Tinubu for 2027 After Winning Osun Election

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has again thrown his weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s bid to return to office in 2027.

Adeleke spoke after his victory in the Osun governorship election, where he secured another term as governor of the state.

According to Daily Post, the governor praised Tinubu for the way the election was conducted. He also described the President as a son of Osun State.

“I must deeply appreciate the President, Bola Tinubu, for a free and fair election. Mr President is a son of Osun State,” Adeleke said.

He went on to reaffirm his support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

“I hereby reaffirm my earlier endorsement of him for a second term in the 2027 presidential election,” the governor added.

Adeleke’s statement came shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared him the winner of the election.

The governor polled 511,067 votes across the state. His closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, APC, secured 444,815 votes.

Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, came third with 17,180 votes. The result means Adeleke will remain in office for another four years after defeating his major challenger in a closely watched election.

His decision to publicly back Tinubu is particularly significant because Adeleke belongs to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, while Tinubu is the leader of the ruling APC. Despite the political differences between their parties, Adeleke has consistently maintained his support for Tinubu’s 2027 ambition.

The governor had earlier endorsed Tinubu for another term. His latest comments therefore reinforce his position ahead of the 2027 presidential contest. Tinubu had also congratulated Adeleke following his victory. The President described the election result as a reflection of the democratic process in Osun State.

Adeleke will now begin preparations for another term in office. His victory has also strengthened his influence in Osun politics as attention gradually shifts towards the 2027 general elections.

For now, however, the governor is celebrating his re-election while making it clear where he stands on Tinubu’s presidential ambition.
