ModernCrux encourages journalists to use authoritative and relevant sources.
Preferred sources include:

* Regulatory filings.
* Company announcements.
* Academic research.
* Interviews with qualified experts.
* Direct eyewitness accounts.
* Official statistics.
* Reputable news organisations where appropriate.
When reporting information originally published by another media organisation, ModernCrux should provide appropriate attribution.
Whenever possible, journalists should seek original or primary sources rather than relying exclusively on secondary reporting.
4. Original Journalism
ModernCrux aims to produce original reporting, interviews, investigations, analysis and explainers in addition to breaking and general news.
Our journalists are encouraged to:
* Conduct original interviews.
* Contact relevant individuals and organisations for comment.
* Examine primary documents.
* Add local context to international stories.
* Provide original analysis where appropriate.
* Investigate matters of genuine public interest.
* Develop stories that provide information beyond what is already widely available.
ModernCrux does not consider simply rewriting another publication’s article to be the highest standard of journalism.
When a story is based substantially on reporting by another organisation, that source should be properly acknowledged.
5. Attribution
ModernCrux believes readers should understand where important information comes from.
Journalists should clearly attribute information obtained from:

* Government agencies.
* Companies.
* Researchers.
* Experts.
* Public statements.
* Social media posts.
* Documents and reports.
Attribution should not be misleading or presented in a way that suggests ModernCrux independently obtained information when it did not.
6. Headlines
ModernCrux headlines should accurately represent the content of an article.
We do not intentionally use misleading headlines, fabricated claims or sensational language designed solely to generate clicks.
Headlines should:
* Accurately reflect the story.
* Avoid exaggeration.
* Avoid presenting allegations as established facts.
* Clearly distinguish opinion from fact.
* Avoid deliberately misleading readers.
ModernCrux may use engaging headlines, but engagement must not come at the expense of accuracy.
7. Breaking News
Breaking news requires particular care because information may change quickly.
Journalists covering breaking stories should:
* Identify what has been confirmed.
* Identify the source of the information.
* Avoid unnecessary speculation.
* Update stories when significant new information becomes available.
* Correct inaccurate information promptly.
* Clearly distinguish confirmed facts from developing reports.
When appropriate, articles should include an “Updated” timestamp.
8. Corrections and Updates
ModernCrux accepts responsibility for correcting factual errors.
When a published article contains a significant factual error, we will correct it as soon as reasonably possible.
Where appropriate, the article will include a correction or update note explaining what was changed.
Minor corrections, such as spelling or formatting errors that do not affect the meaning of a story, may be corrected without a formal correction notice.
We do not secretly alter significant factual errors in a manner intended to conceal the original mistake.
9. Right of Reply
ModernCrux seeks fairness when reporting allegations or serious criticism involving individuals, companies or organisations.
Where practical, journalists should give the subject of significant allegations a reasonable opportunity to respond before publication.
If a response is not received before publication, the article may state that the organisation or individual was contacted and had not responded at the time of publication.
If a response is received after publication and is materially relevant, ModernCrux may update the article.
10. Anonymous Sources
ModernCrux prefers named sources wherever possible.
Anonymous sources may be used when:
* The information is genuinely in the public interest.
* The source has direct knowledge of the matter.
* Revealing the person’s identity could expose them to serious harm or retaliation.
* The information cannot reasonably be obtained through another source.
Anonymous sourcing should be approved by an appropriate editor where practical.
Journalists should not use anonymous sources to publish personal attacks, rumours or unsupported accusations.
11. Social Media
Social media posts can be useful sources of information but should not automatically be treated as verified facts.
Before reporting information from social media, journalists should make reasonable efforts to determine:
* Whether the account is authentic.
* Whether the information has been independently confirmed.
* Whether the image or video is genuine and current.
* Whether the material has been taken out of context.
Viral content should not be published merely because it is trending.
12. User-Generated Content
ModernCrux may publish photographs, videos, statements or other material supplied by members of the public.
Such material should be reviewed for authenticity and context before publication where reasonably possible.
Where appropriate, ModernCrux will identify the original creator or contributor.
We will not knowingly present user-generated material as original ModernCrux reporting.
13. Artificial Intelligence

AI tools must not replace journalistic responsibility.

ModernCrux will not knowingly publish fabricated quotations, invented sources, fake events or fictional facts generated by artificial intelligence.
Where AI materially contributes to content in circumstances where disclosure is appropriate, ModernCrux may disclose its use.
14. Plagiarism
ModernCrux does not tolerate plagiarism.
Journalists must not:
* Copy another publication’s article and present it as their own.
* Copy another journalist’s work without attribution.
* Reproduce substantial copyrighted material without permission or a legitimate legal basis.
* Present another person’s reporting as original reporting.
Information obtained from another publication should be independently reported where possible and properly attributed when used.

ModernCrux seeks to use images responsibly and lawfully.
Journalists and editors should use:

* Images supplied with permission.

* Other material where lawful use is established.
Images should not be deliberately manipulated in a misleading manner.
When required, image credits should be provided.
16. Privacy
ModernCrux respects individuals’ reasonable expectations of privacy.
We will consider the public interest before publishing private or sensitive personal information.
Private information should not be published simply because it is interesting or likely to attract clicks.

Sponsored or paid content should be clearly identified.
ModernCrux will not knowingly present paid promotional material as independent editorial reporting.
Commercial relationships must not determine the outcome of independent journalism.
