FBI Arrests Albany Woman Over Alleged ISIS Inspired Plot to Bomb New York State Capitol

The FBI arrested 35-year-old Jessica Bowie in Albany, New York, for allegedly plotting an ISIS inspired bomb attack on the State Capitol building.

Federal agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation took 35 year old Albany resident Jessica Bowie into custody following an undercover anti-terrorism investigation in New York State.

Federal prosecutors charged Bowie in court on Thursday, August 20, 2026, with attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist group after discovering her detailed plans to detonate a bomb inside the government headquarters.

The arrest happened on Wednesday after law enforcement officers monitored her activities for over a month, stepping in before any actual explosives could be set off near state lawmakers.

The main reason for the sudden arrest is that investigators caught Bowie secretly scouting government offices and buying bomb making supplies to carry out a deadly attack on elected leaders.

According to court documents filed in federal court, Bowie pledged allegiance to the terrorist organization ISIS and began taking photographs of security entrances around the New York State Capitol building in July.

She told undercover FBI sources posing as terrorist helpers that she wanted to hide an explosive device inside a common food delivery bag to kill politicians while they held meetings inside the building.

During undercover operations, federal agents watched as Bowie purchased nails, tape, and chemical batteries to build a homemade bomb.

When undercover agents met her to hand over what she believed was a live explosive device and a handgun, law enforcement officers immediately arrested her.

Reporting from major outlets like the Associated Press and The New York Times shows that her online activity had been tracked since May after she began posting extreme threats on social media.

Official court records reveal the extreme danger of her plans through her own messages sent to undercover agents. Explaining her goal to destroy government offices, Jessica Bowie wrote, “I want to destroy as much of the building as possible and kill all the senators while they are meeting”.

When federal agents questioned her after her arrest, Bowie admitted she knew the law, stating, “There’s no helping me, you guys know enough,” and adding, “Material support is up to 20 years in prison, I already Googled it before, I know I’m going to jail”.

Legal leaders and state officials praised federal agents for stopping the attack before anyone got hurt. Speaking about the seriousness of the charge, First Assistant United States Attorney John Sarcone said, “The allegations in this complaint are deeply disturbing,” emphasizing that “that’s an attack on democracy itself and one we will not tolerate”.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul also reassured citizens, stating that “earlier this year, amid a rise in political violence and threats against public officials, we took steps to strengthen security at the State Capitol and across state government,” adding that there is no active danger to the public.

In plain and simple terms, the FBI caught a woman in New York who was planning to blow up a government building where politicians make laws.

Agents stopped her before she could hurt anyone, and she is now facing a long time in prison for trying to help a terrorist group.
