The Nasarawa State Police Command has warned political actors against starting campaigns ahead of the period approved by law.
The warning comes as political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The command said all politicians must obey electoral laws and avoid actions that could threaten peace in the state. It also stressed the need for responsible conduct during the political season.

Against Violating Electoral Laws
Speaking in Lafia, the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, urged politicians and their supporters to avoid premature campaigns, hate speech and other activities capable of causing tension.
According to him, elections should promote democracy and not create division among citizens. He noted that every political stakeholder has a duty to protect peace and maintain public order.
The police commissioner warned that security agencies would closely monitor political activities across the state. He added that anyone found violating the law would face appropriate sanctions.
Police Threaten Action Against Political Violence
Mohammed also cautioned politicians against sponsoring violence or using inflammatory language to attack opponents.
He explained that political competition should remain peaceful and issue-based. Therefore, parties and candidates must avoid actions that could lead to unrest.
The police boss further stated that offenders would be arrested and prosecuted regardless of their political status. He said security agencies would remain neutral while enforcing the law.
Youths Advised to Reject Violence
The command urged young people not to allow themselves to be used for political violence.
Mohammed said youths play a vital role in the democratic process and should focus on promoting peace in their communities.
He encouraged them to reject offers that could drag them into unlawful activities.
He also appealed to residents to remain law-abiding and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
Police Reaffirm Commitment to Peace
The Nasarawa State Police Command reassured residents of its commitment to maintaining peace before, during and after political activities.
The command said it would continue working with other security agencies to ensure a safe environment for all citizens as preparations for the 2027 elections continue.
Political stakeholders were advised to respect electoral guidelines and embrace peaceful engagement throughout the election period.
