Police recovered a firearm from a student during a crackdown on suspected cult-related activities in Taraba State.
Officers arrested Usman A. Usman, 18, after they found a mini revolver pistol in his possession.The incident has also prompted a wider police investigation.
According to the Taraba State Police Command, officers recovered the firearm during the operation. Investigators have started efforts to establish how the student obtained the weapon and whether other people played a role in the case.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing. Detectives are examining every available lead to determine the source of the mini revolver pistol. They are also working to identify anyone who may have assisted the suspect or had knowledge of the firearm.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case for a comprehensive investigation. The command said the move would ensure a thorough probe into the circumstances surrounding the incident and help uncover any criminal connections.
Furthermore, the police described the operation as part of ongoing efforts to tackle cult-related activities, illegal possession of firearms and other crimes involving young people in Taraba State.
