President Bola Tinubu has chaired the Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting at the State House in Abuja.
According to Daily Post, the Tinubu FEC meeting was held on Wednesday at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa. Vice President Kashim Shettima and other members of the council attended the meeting.
The meeting marks the first time the Federal Executive Council has gathered since June 29. The council’s return comes at a time when the Federal Government is working on several policies and programmes aimed at improving the country’s economy and infrastructure.
Tinubu has continued to place strong attention on economic growth, investment, infrastructure and other areas of national development. Therefore, decisions reached at the latest meeting could affect several sectors of the economy.
The previous FEC meeting on June 29 produced several major decisions. The council approved a number of projects covering transport, agriculture, health and other important areas.
It also approved financing arrangements worth billions of naira and dollars for selected government projects. In addition, the council considered major reforms concerning the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC.
The government approved changes to the leadership and operations of the scheme. It also approved adjustments to the orientation programme for corps members.
The reforms were aimed at improving the effectiveness of the NYSC while strengthening the safety and welfare of young Nigerians taking part in the national service programme.
Meanwhile, Wednesday’s meeting provides the President and his ministers with another opportunity to assess ongoing government programmes. The council is also expected to consider fresh proposals from various ministries, departments and agencies.
However, details of the decisions reached during the meeting were not immediately available at the time of filing this report.
Ministers are expected to address journalists after the council meeting. Their briefings should provide more information about the issues discussed and the decisions approved by the government.
Many citizens are particularly interested in measures that could improve the economy, create more opportunities and reduce pressure on households. As a result, attention will now shift to the decisions announced after the Tinubu FEC meeting and how the government plans to implement them.
Further details are expected to emerge as ministers brief State House correspondents on the outcome of the meeting.
