Florentino Pérez says his mission is far from over. After securing another term as Real Madrid president, the veteran club chief promised to keep chasing trophies, defend the club’s independence, and ensure that what he calls “the greatest club in history” becomes even stronger in the years ahead.
Florentino Pérez has been re-elected as president of Real Madrid, extending his leadership of the Spanish giants until 2030 after winning the club’s first contested election in two decades. The result further strengthens the position of one of the most influential figures in world football, whose presidency has shaped some of the most successful periods in the club’s history.
Speaking after the victory, Pérez struck a celebratory but determined tone.
He thanked club members for their support and described the outcome as an “extraordinary result,” noting that his ticket won across all polling stations. He also emphasized that his focus remains on ensuring Real Madrid continues competing for the biggest honors in football.
“We have won the election and we will work to make the greatest club of all time even greater,” Pérez said after the result was confirmed.
The election came at a sensitive moment for the club.
Real Madrid endured a disappointing season by its own lofty standards, finishing without a major trophy and facing growing questions about the direction of the team. That backdrop helped produce the first serious presidential challenge Pérez has faced in years, with businessman Enrique Riquelme securing roughly 35% of the vote. Pérez ultimately won with around 65% support from members.
Despite the challenge, the result reaffirmed Pérez’s grip on power.
The 79year old has overseen Real Madrid through some of the most successful eras in modern football, including multiple Champions League triumphs and the transformation of the club into one of the most valuable sports organizations in the world.
In his victory speech, Pérez highlighted several priorities for the coming years.
Among them was the continued development of the renovated Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, which he described as the finest stadium in the world. He also pledged to maintain Real Madrid’s member-owned structure, an issue that became a major talking point during the election campaign.
“With me as president, Real Madrid has been, is, and will always remain owned by its members,” Pérez declared.
Football matters, however, remain at the center of attention.
Pérez made clear that the club’s ambition has not changed, promising to continue pursuing major trophies and specifically referencing Real Madrid’s pursuit of a sixteenth European Cup. The president also celebrated the return of José Mourinho, whom he described as one of the best coaches in the world and a true madridista.
The election campaign itself became increasingly focused on sporting promises.
Pérez announced plans to strengthen the squad, including previously revealed moves for defenders and a pledge to pursue a marquee signing worth at least €150 million. Those promises were a major part of his campaign message as he sought to convince members that Real Madrid could quickly return to the top after a frustrating season.
Yet beyond transfers and trophies, Pérez used his speech to call for unity.
He acknowledged those who voted against him and promised to listen to their concerns, arguing that the club’s strength has always come from remaining united despite disagreements.
The message from Pérez was clear: the election may be over, but he views the next four years as a new chapter rather than a victory lap.
For Real Madrid supporters, the result provides continuity at a time when significant decisions lie ahead.
A new manager is arriving, major transfer activity is expected, and the club is looking to recover from a rare season without silverware. The challenge for Pérez now is turning electoral victory into success on the pitch.
If history is any guide, few presidents in football have built their reputation on doing exactly that more than Florentino Pérez.
