US Army bomb disposal experts recently brought their advanced gear to the New Jersey State Fair in Augusta, New Jersey. The event gave people visiting the fair a chance to see real military technology up close and learn about job options in the armed forces.
The special team that went to the fair belongs to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal technology unit from Picatinny Arsenal in New Jersey. These soldiers are trained to safely handle and destroy dangerous explosives like bombs, landmines, and old artillery shells. They teamed up with local military recruiters from the North Jersey Recruiting Company to set up an interactive display right in the middle of the fairgrounds.
Visitors of all ages stopped by the military booth to check out the high-tech tools that bomb technicians use every day. The soldiers brought out remote-controlled robots, specialized tools, and heavy protective bomb suits.
Fairgoers got to watch demonstrations of how the robots work to pick up dangerous items from a safe distance. Many young people and families even tried on parts of the heavy bomb suits to see what it feels like to stand in a bomb expert’s shoes.
