The Federal Bureau of Investigation(FBI) has made a fresh statement before an American federal court in Washington concerning President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The American police agency disclosed that the secret investigative files linked to the Nigerian leader are part of a very big official file that covers many different subjects and separate criminal matters.
This news has quickly raised fresh discussions across Nigeria, as citizens, lawyers, and political groups continue to follow the long court struggle over the public release of these confidential government papers.
The legal battle started inside the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, where an American researcher named Aaron Greenspan filed a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit.
Mr. Greenspan is asking American security agencies to release all official documents, interview notes, and secret files connected to President Tinubu from the early 1990s.
The files relate to an old criminal investigation conducted by American officers into drug trafficking and money laundering operations that involved several individuals living in Chicago at the time.
In a sworn paper submitted to the court by an official FBI officer, the agency explained why it cannot release every paper to the public.
