Former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye has criticised President Bola Tinubu over his decision to lead his own 2027 presidential campaign.
Melaye made the remarks while reacting to Tinubu’s emergence as chairman of the campaign council. According to daily post, the former lawmaker questioned why the President would choose to take such a direct role in his re-election campaign.
The development comes as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Tinubu’s campaign structure has already begun taking shape, with Abdulaziz Yari named to a major role in the campaign council.
However, Melaye believes Tinubu’s decision reflects concerns within the President’s camp. He claimed that Tinubu is afraid of everyone around him. According to Melaye, this fear influenced the President’s decision to personally take charge of the campaign structure.
The former senator also questioned the President’s confidence in other members of the All Progressives Congress. Melaye’s comments add another layer to the growing political debate surrounding Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
The President is expected to face opposition from several political figures and emerging alliances as the race develops. With the 2027 election drawing closer, the formation of campaign teams has become a major focus within Nigeria’s political space.
For Tinubu, taking a central role in his campaign could help him maintain direct control over his re-election strategy. However, critics such as Melaye see the move differently. They argue that it raises questions about the level of trust within the President’s political camp.
The controversy is likely to continue as parties and opposition groups intensify their preparations for the 2027 presidential contest.
