- Vice President Kashim Shettima has said Nigeria possesses enough resources to become one of the world’s strongest economies. He argued that the country’s rich agricultural land, minerals and energetic population make poverty unacceptable.
Speaking at the Agric, Development and Investment Summit in Abuja, Shettima urged leaders to focus on sectors that can deliver long-term growth. He explained that economic progress depends on productive investments rather than continued reliance on crude oil.
The Vice President said Nigeria has no business being poor because agriculture offers enormous opportunities for wealth creation. He noted that countries with fewer natural advantages have built stronger economies by developing their farming industries and increasing exports.
To support his point, Shettima compared Nigeria with Indonesia. He said Indonesia now generates more income from palm oil than Nigeria earns from crude oil. According to him, the comparison shows how poor policy choices can limit a nation’s economic potential.
Furthermore, he called for stronger cooperation between government agencies, private investors and development partners. He believes such collaboration will modernise agriculture, expand food production and create millions of jobs across the country.
Shettima also encouraged authorities to introduce policies that support farmers, improve infrastructure and attract fresh investment.
He maintained that Nigeria has no business being poor because the country already has the resources needed to achieve lasting prosperity.
According to daily post,He added that transforming those resources into real economic gains will require commitment, innovation and consistent leadership. In his view, Nigeria can overcome poverty if it fully develops its agricultural and industrial potential.
