Former Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, has cast his vote in the ongoing governorship election in the state.
According to Daily Post, Oyetola voted alongside his wife, Kafayat, at Ward 1, Unit 10 in Iragbiji, Boripe Local Government Area of Osun State.
The former governor arrived at the polling unit on Saturday to participate in the election as voters across the state turned out to choose their preferred candidate.
Oyetola’s appearance at the polling unit attracted attention, given his history in Osun politics and his continued involvement in political affairs within the state.
He governed Osun from 2018 to 2022 after defeating other candidates in the 2018 governorship election. However, he lost his re-election bid to Ademola Adeleke in the 2022 election.
Despite leaving the state government, Oyetola has remained active in public affairs. President Bola Tinubu later appointed him as the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy.
His participation in Saturday’s election adds to the activities of prominent political figures who have visited polling units to exercise their voting rights.
Meanwhile, voters have continued to arrive at polling units across Osun to participate in the electoral process. The election features candidates from several political parties seeking the opportunity to govern the state.
