President Bola Tinubu has appointed former University of Lagos Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin Temitayo Ogundipe, as chairman of the Governing Board of the National Universities Commission (NUC). The Tinubu appoints Ogundipe NUC chairman announcement came on Monday.

According to dailypost report,the Presidency, the appointment was confirmed in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. Professor Ogundipe succeeds Emeritus Professor Olufemi Raphael Aina, who recently left the position.

Experienced academic takes over

Professor Ogundipe led the University of Lagos from 2017 to 2022. During that period, he gained wide experience in university administration. In addition, he built a strong reputation as a professor of Botany.

He earned his PhD from Obafemi Awolowo University. Later, he completed an MBA at the University of Lagos. He also serves as Pro-Chancellor of Redeemer’s University in Osun State.

Professor Ogundipe belongs to several respected professional bodies. These include the Nigerian Academy of Science, the Linnaean Society of London, and the Royal Society of Biology. He also previously led the Botanical Society of Nigeria.
