Trump Pushes Crypto Bill as Bitcoin Jumps Above $70,000

The president wants clear rules for digital money and says he will make the US the crypto capital of the world. Wall Street listened, sending Bitcoin and a pile of mining stocks straight up, even though the industry has been having a rough year.

When the president asks Congress to do something, the stock market usually waits to see if it actually happens. But when it comes to digital money, just hearing the words is enough to send prices flying.

President Donald Trump just finished a meeting at the White House with top crypto executives. Afterward, he told Congress to pass a fair version of the Clarity Act.

He wants the US to be the “crypto capital of the world.” The bill would finally draw a line between what is a security and what is a commodity, ending the long turf war between two major federal regulators.

The market loved it. Bitcoin shot up 3.4%, breaking past $70,000.

The companies that build the plumbing for this industry saw their stock prices soar. Coinbase jumped over 8%. A mining machine maker called Canaan surged 20%.

This is a big deal because 2026 has been a brutal year for digital money. Bitcoin is down about 18% since January. The whole sector has been waiting for a win.

But the bill has a major roadblock. Many Democrats and a few Republicans refuse to vote for it unless it includes a strict rule banning politicians from making money off their own crypto projects.

That is a direct shot at the president. Trump’s family pulled in more than $1.4 billion from their own digital money ventures last year.

Industry bosses argue that without a permanent law, the rules will just change every time a new president moves into the White House.

The stock tickers are flashing green today. But getting a divided Congress to agree on a bill that restricts the president’s own wallet is a much harder trade to pull off.
