Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has alleged a fresh plot to exclude the party from the 2027 election ballot. He warned that any attempt to stop the ADC from participating could undermine Nigeria’s democracy. He also called on Nigerians to defend the country’s electoral process.
Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has alleged a fresh plot to exclude the ADC from the 2027 election ballot. He claimed that influential forces were working behind the scenes. According to him, they want to stop the party from appearing on the ballot.
According to Atiku, the alleged plan aims to weaken the opposition ahead of the next general election. He argued that the ADC has emerged as a strong political alternative. As a result, he believes some individuals want to prevent the party from taking part in the contest.
In a statement issued on Monday through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said he had received what he described as credible information about a coordinated political and legal strategy. He claimed the strategy was designed to keep the ADC out of the election. Therefore, he urged Nigerians to remain alert. He also asked them to closely monitor political developments.
Atiku Alleges Plot to Exclude ADC From Ballot Ahead of 2027 Election
Speaking further, Atiku said excluding the party from the ballot would weaken Nigeria’s democratic system. He stressed that democracy can only thrive when every eligible political party has the opportunity to participate freely. He added that voters, not political interests, should decide who governs the country.
Furthermore, Atiku questioned why anyone would seek to block the ADC if the ruling party was confident of winning through a free and fair election. He maintained that genuine democracy depends on open competition. He also insisted that no political party should lose the right to contest without lawful justification.
However, the former vice president expressed hope that the alleged plot would never succeed. He said recent political developments had made such concerns difficult to ignore. According to him, institutions expected to remain neutral now play increasing roles in political disputes. He also claimed that some legal actions and administrative measures have frustrated opposition parties.
In addition, Atiku alleged that several opposition parties had recently faced leadership crises, court cases, and administrative pressure. He argued that these developments suggested a broader effort to weaken political competition before the 2027 election. For that reason, he urged civil society groups, election observers, and ordinary Nigerians to protect democratic values. He also called on them to ensure every qualified party can participate.
As stated in daily post,Meanwhile, the Federal Government and the ruling APC had not issued any official response to the allegations at the time this report was filed.
