2027 Politics: Northern Stakeholders React As Atiku, Kwankwaso Alliance Talks Gain Attention

Political conversations ahead of the 2027 presidential election are already heating up, especially in Northern Nigeria, where discussions about possible alliances involving former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso have continued to generate reactions.

Several political stakeholders believe that if major opposition figures fail to unite before the election, northern votes could end up being divided again, just like many observers claimed happened during the 2023 presidential race.

Concerns Over Division Of Northern Votes

According to dailypost reports, there are growing talks around a possible political understanding between Labour Party’s Peter Obi and Kwankwaso ahead of 2027.

While some supporters see the move as a smart political strategy, others fear it could weaken the opposition’s overall chances if Atiku decides to contest separately.

Speaking on the development, some northern stakeholders reportedly argued that Atiku still has a wider political structure and stronger acceptance across several northern states. They claimed Kwankwaso’s influence remains strongest in Kano State and parts of the North-West.

An ADC chieftain, Adnan Mukhtar Tudun Wada, reportedly stated that many northern voters may still find it difficult to fully embrace an Obi-Kwankwaso alliance because of political sentiments that followed the 2023 election.

The comments have already sparked fresh debates online, with supporters of different political camps defending their preferred candidates.

Supporters Believe Coalition Could Change The Game

Despite the concerns being raised, supporters of a possible Obi-Kwankwaso alliance insist that such a coalition could become a serious force ahead of 2027.

Some political observers believe Nigerians are becoming more open to alternative political movements, especially as economic hardship and insecurity continue to dominate national discussions.

Kano Obidient Coordinator, Barrister Ibrahim Muhammad, reportedly said the political atmosphere in 2027 may not look the same as it did in the last election.

According to him, many voters are now paying closer attention to coalition talks and possible alliances that could challenge the ruling party more effectively.

Analysts have also suggested that if opposition leaders are able to work together instead of contesting separately, the election could become more competitive across different regions of the country.

Early Political Moves Already Taking Shape

Although the 2027 general election is still some time away, consultations, negotiations and behind-the-scenes meetings are already ongoing among major political figures and parties.

For now, many Nigerians are simply watching closely to see whether the opposition will eventually unite under a common front or head into another divided battle at the polls.

One thing already clear is that conversations around Atiku, Kwankwaso and other opposition leaders are likely to remain part of Nigeria’s political headlines in the coming months.
