Adeniyi Adeyemi wanted as court orders arrest in PFIPC case

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the arrest of Adeniyi Adeyemi after he failed to appear for his arraignment in the PFIPC case.

Justice Mohammed Umar issued the bench warrant after prosecutors told the court that Adeyemi ignored the summons despite knowing about the proceedings. As a result, the judge directed security agencies to arrest him and bring him before the court.

Prosecutors accused Adeyemi of posing as the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC). They also alleged that he relied on forged documents to support his claim. However, the Presidency has repeatedly said the council is not a recognised government agency.

Adeyemi did not attend the hearing. His lawyer also failed to explain his absence to the court. Consequently, the prosecution asked for a bench warrant. Justice Umar granted the application without delay.

According to the prosecution, Adeyemi faces charges of forgery, impersonation and other offences linked to the PFIPC. In addition, the Federal Government insists the council has no legal backing.

Meanwhile, the judge adjourned the case until security agencies arrest Adeyemi and present him before the court. The trial will continue after that.

As stated by daily post,Earlier, the Presidency distanced itself from the council. President Bola Tinubu also directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the allegations surrounding the PFIPC.
