Adeniyi Adeyemi arrested after court issues bench warrant

The self-acclaimed Director-General of the non-existent Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), Adeniyi Adeyemi, has been arrested after a Federal High Court in Abuja issued a bench warrant against him.

The court ordered his arrest after he failed to appear for his scheduled arraignment. As a result, Justice Mohammed Umar directed security agencies to take him into custody.

According to prosecutor,Adeyemi had delayed the case several times. He told the court that previous adjournments came at the defendant’s request. However, Adeyemi failed to attend Tuesday’s hearing. The court then approved the application for his arrest.

Adeyemi is facing an eight-count charge involving alleged forgery, fraud and impersonation. Prosecutors alleged that he falsely presented himself as the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council. The Federal Government has maintained that the agency does not exist.

Investigators also accused Adeyemi of using forged government documents to make the fake agency appear genuine. In addition, they alleged that he issued appointment letters bearing forged signatures, official seals and other government insignia.

Authorities further claimed that Adeyemi operated from an office inside the Federal Secretariat Complex in Abuja. They alleged that he used the location to issue appointments into the non-existent agency and mislead members of the public.

Meanwhile, the fake PFIPC scandal has attracted widespread public attention. Consequently, the Federal Government launched an investigation into the activities linked to the alleged organisation.

According to daily post,Adeyemi’s arrest marks the latest development in the case. For now, the court will continue handling the matter in line with the charges before it.
