Benjamin Kalu PFIPC scandal took a new twist on Tuesday after the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives disclosed that he was also misled by Nurudeen Adeyemi. He said he initially believed the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) was a legitimate government agency.
According to daily post, Kalu explained that Adeyemi approached him with proposals and presented documents that appeared genuine. According to him, the suspect also carried himself as the head of a recognised federal agency, leaving little reason to question his claims.
As a result, Kalu said he accepted the engagement in good faith. However, concerns later emerged over the legal status of the organisation. Further checks eventually revealed that the PFIPC had no legal backing.
The Deputy Speaker stressed that he never knowingly supported any illegal activity. Instead, he described himself as one of the victims of Adeyemi’s alleged deception.
Furthermore, Kalu called on security agencies to carry out a thorough investigation into the matter. He urged authorities to ensure that everyone found responsible is held accountable in line with the law.
In addition, he said the controversy should serve as a lesson for public institutions. According to him, government officials must strengthen verification procedures before recognising or working with organisations claiming official status.
The Benjamin Kalu PFIPC scandal has continued to generate national attention following revelations that the agency allegedly operated without legal establishment. According to Daily Post, investigations into the controversy are still ongoing.
Therefore, Kalu expressed confidence that the ongoing probe would uncover the full circumstances surrounding the case. He also maintained that stronger institutional checks would help prevent similar incidents in the future.
