Allegations of extortion against a senior police officer have sparked disciplinary action in Rivers State. The development led to the removal of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Oyigbo Division.
The Rivers State Police Command confirmed the officer’s removal. Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju ordered the action. According to the command, the decision will allow investigators to carry out a transparent and impartial probe.
Reports online alleged that the DPO extorted ₦500,000 from a resident. The resident was reportedly arrested and detained without a clearly stated offense.
