NCDC detects two suspected Ebola cases in North-East Nigeria and isolates both individuals while awaiting laboratory confirmation.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has publicly announced the detection of two suspected cases of Ebola virus disease in the North-East region of the country.

Health authorities disclosed the development on Saturday, October 31, 2026, confirming that they immediately placed both individuals in isolation while laboratory investigations and contact tracing continue across the area.

The health alert comes days after the federal government confirmed an imported index case of Ebola in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, involving an international traveler.

In response to the new developments in the North-East, rapid response teams have been mobilized to track individuals who may have come into contact with the suspected individuals to prevent potential community transmission.

To prevent unnecessary fear and panic, the health agency emphasized that identifying an individual as a suspected case does not mean they have tested positive for the virus.

Clarifying the official health status of the individuals, the NCDC stated in its update:

“Being classified as suspected cases does not mean they are confirmed Ebola cases; confirmation is subject to laboratory results.”

The agency urged members of the public to remain calm, avoid sharing unverified rumors, and strictly follow recommended safety practices.

Advising citizens on daily preventive measures, health officials noted:

“The public is advised to maintain proper hand hygiene, practise enhanced sanitation and follow preventive guidance issued by public health authorities.”

Health facilities across all states have been instructed to heighten surveillance, isolate anyone presenting with sudden fever or unexpected bleeding, and report alerts immediately to public health authorities.

The NCDC assured Nigerians that further verified updates will be released as soon as laboratory test results are fully concluded.
