Former Rivers State governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has dismissed speculations suggesting he bought the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential form to later become a vice-presidential candidate.
Amaechi made it clear that he joined the 2027 presidential race because he wants to contest for the top seat and not to play a supporting role to anyone.
Speaking on the growing conversations within the opposition coalition, the former minister stressed that his ambition is focused on becoming Nigeria’s president under the African Democratic Congress platform.
According to him, buying the nominati I’mon form was a serious political decision and not a strategy to negotiate for a vice-presidential slot.
His statement is coming amid increasing talks about possible alliances among major opposition figures ahead of the 2027 election. Amaechi and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar are both considered leading figures within the ADC coalition movement.
The former Rivers governor also maintained that the opposition must present a strong and credible candidate capable of challenging President Bola Tinubu in the next general election.
Amaechi officially submitted his ADC presidential nomination form days ago, confirming his full participation in the party’s presidential primary race.
Political observers believe the race for the ADC ticket could become one of the biggest stories ahead of the 2027 elections, especially with several heavyweight politicians already showing interest in the platform.
