Olooye Taofeek Adegboyega Adegoke has reaffirmed his claim to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship ticket in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 election.
Adegoke described himself as the authentic candidate of the party, amid the controversy that followed the conduct of parallel governorship primaries in the state.
The ADC faced an internal dispute after Adegoke and Gbemileke Alagbe were both declared winners of separate governorship primaries held in May.
Adegoke emerged from one of the exercises with 16,051 votes. His closest challenger, Bisi Ilaka, scored 11,415 votes.
According to daily post, Alagbe, however, was declared winner at another venue. The development deepened tensions within the party and raised questions about which candidate would eventually fly the ADC flag in Oyo State.
Despite the controversy, Adegoke has continued to maintain that his emergence was valid.
The politician had earlier urged ADC members and other candidates to remain focused on the 2027 election. He also assured party supporters that the legal challenges surrounding the party would not stop its preparations.
Speaking on the situation, Adegoke maintained that his camp remains committed to the ADC and its plans for Oyo State. He has also called on other members of the party to put their differences aside and work towards a stronger opposition ahead of the election.
Adegoke previously promised to build on the achievements of the current administration if elected governor. He said his priorities would include security, education, healthcare, water supply and infrastructure.
The former PDP member joined the ADC to pursue his governorship ambition and later secured the party’s primary ticket in the exercise that produced him as candidate.
With the 2027 election approaching, the dispute over the ADC ticket remains an important issue in Oyo politics. Adegoke’s latest position shows that he is not prepared to give up his claim to the party’s governorship nomination.
