Oyo Insecurity Crisis: APC Calls for Makinde’s Resignation Amid Rising Security Concerns

The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has sharply criticized Governor Seyi Makinde over the worsening security situation in the state, describing his handling of recent incidents as a sign of poor leadership.

The opposition party accused the governor of failing to tackle the growing wave of kidnappings, killings, and violent crimes across Oyo State.

It also called on him to resign if he could no longer effectively manage the state’s security challenges.

APC Blames Makinde for Rising Insecurity

In a statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, the APC expressed concern over recent abductions and attacks reported in different parts of the state.

The party pointed to the kidnapping of schoolchildren and teachers in communities within Oriire Local Government Area as well as the abduction of staff members of the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria. According to the APC, these incidents reflect a growing security crisis that requires urgent action.

The opposition party argued that the current administration has focused more on political activities than on strengthening security structures designed to protect residents.

Questions Over Security Spending

The APC also questioned how security funds have been utilized by the state government.
According to the party, billions of naira were reportedly spent on security-related projects, including surveillance equipment. However, it claimed that residents have not seen significant improvements in safety despite these investments.

The party further alleged that key stakeholders, including traditional rulers and local institutions, have not been fully involved in security coordination efforts since the beginning of the administration.

Disagreement Over State Police

Another issue raised by the APC concerns Governor Makinde’s recent support for state police.

The party accused the governor of changing his position on the matter, claiming he had previously opposed the proposal before later advocating for it as a solution to Nigeria’s security challenges.

Governor Makinde recently urged the Federal Government to support the creation of state police, arguing that it would help states respond more effectively to security threats.

APC Demands Immediate Action
The APC insisted that the governor should take full responsibility as the state’s chief security officer and work toward securing the release of all kidnapped victims.

The party maintained that residents deserve stronger protection and a more effective security strategy. It warned that continued insecurity could further affect public confidence in the state government.

As debates continue over the best approach to addressing insecurity, many residents will be watching closely to see how the Oyo State government responds to the growing concerns.
