Donald Trump says the US has put planned military strikes against Iran on hold after what he described as progress toward a possible agreement, raising hopes that weeks of escalating tensions could give way to renewed diplomacy.
US President Donald Trump has announced that he has cancelled planned military strikes against Iran, saying the decision is conditional on Tehran moving quickly to finalize a deal that would end the latest crisis in the Middle East.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the United States had been fully prepared to launch a major military operation but chose to pause the attack after requests from Iran and several Middle Eastern countries to allow more time for negotiations.
“We were locked and loaded and ready to go against the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Trump wrote, adding that he decided to “cancel the attack, subject to being able to rapidly make a DEAL.”
According to Trump, the framework of the proposed agreement has already been outlined. He said the deal would require the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s busiest oil shipping routes, and the elimination of what he called Iran’s nuclear threat.

Iran has not publicly responded to Trump’s announcement.
The statement followed reports from US media that Washington had been considering another wave of intense strikes on Iranian military targets over the weekend. Earlier, Tehran warned that any country assisting US military operations would be “engulfed by the flames of war,” heightening fears of a wider regional conflict.
The White House had also issued a security alert advising Americans across the Middle East to remain vigilant and prepare for possible travel disruptions, including flight cancellations and airspace closures, should hostilities intensify.
The latest development comes after months of renewed conflict between Washington and Tehran. Since a ceasefire collapsed in June, both sides have exchanged repeated military strikes, with the US targeting Iranian military sites and enforcing a blockade on Iranian ports, while Iran has launched missiles and drones at US assets across the region and threatened shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump’s latest remarks suggest diplomacy may once again be taking center stage, although it remains unclear whether Tehran is prepared to accept the terms outlined by Washington.
