Abdulmumin Jibrin, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has dismissed talks of a powerful opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 presidential election, insisting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains the candidate to beat.
According to Jibrin, even if former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party figure Peter Obi, and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde come together on one platform, they would still struggle to defeat Tinubu at the polls.
Speaking on the growing discussions around opposition unity, Jibrin argued that those planning to challenge the president have already lost the political battle.
‘They Have Already Lost’
The APC stalwart said Tinubu’s political strength, nationwide structure and experience give him a clear advantage over any opposition alliance that may emerge before the next election.
He maintained that the president has built strong political relationships across the country and remains well-positioned to secure another term in office.
Jibrin added that opposition leaders are focusing too much on forming alliances instead of convincing Nigerians that they have a better alternative to offer.
Opposition Coalition Talks Continue
His comments come at a time when talks of opposition cooperation have continued to dominate political discussions.
Several political figures have openly supported the idea of a united front against the ruling APC in 2027. Supporters of the move believe a coalition could increase the opposition’s chances of unseating the incumbent president.
However, questions remain over who would lead such an alliance and whether key political actors can set aside personal ambitions for a common goal.
Battle for 2027 Already Taking Shape
Although the election is still months away, political calculations are already intensifying across party lines.
The ruling APC is expected to rally behind Tinubu, while opposition parties continue to explore strategies that could strengthen their chances in the next presidential race.
For Jibrin, however, the outcome is not in doubt. He believes that regardless of the alliances formed, Tinubu will emerge victorious when Nigerians head to the polls in 2027.
Conclusion
As political maneuvering ahead of 2027 gathers pace, debates over possible alliances and coalition arrangements are likely to continue.
While opposition leaders see unity as their best path to victory, Jibrin insists that President Tinubu remains firmly in control of the political landscape.
