Two suspected kidnappers in Ogun were killed during a gun battle with police operatives, who also recovered N2.2 million believed to be ransom proceeds.
The operation followed credible intelligence on the activities of a suspected kidnapping gang in parts of the state. Acting on the information, police operatives traced the suspects to their hideout and moved in to arrest them.
According to the police, the suspects opened fire when officers arrived at the location. The operatives responded immediately, and a fierce exchange of gunfire followed. As a result, two of the suspects were killed.
Police said officers recovered N2.2 million believed to be linked to kidnapping activities. In addition, they found a single-barrel gun and a mobile phone at the scene.
Meanwhile, investigators have intensified efforts to track down other members of the gang who escaped during the operation. Authorities believe the suspects may have connections to other criminal activities within the state.
Furthermore, police officials said intelligence gathering played a major role in the success of the operation. They added that security agencies would continue targeting criminal groups involved in kidnapping and other violent crimes.
