FG Restricts Motorcycles, Tricycles from Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway

The FG restricts motorcycles and tricycles from using the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as part of efforts to improve road safety and preserve the newly completed infrastructure.

According to Daily Post, the Federal Ministry of Works announced the directive through the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Olufemi Dare. He said the decision will help protect the highway from misuse and reduce avoidable damage.

Dare described the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as one of Nigeria’s major transport projects. He said the ministry wants to keep the road in good condition and ensure it serves motorists for many years.

Furthermore he added that restricting motorcycles and tricycles forms part of that objective.

The ministry also introduced additional rules for other road users. It directed truck drivers and operators of articulated vehicles to stop parking along the highway and on bridges across Lagos State. Officials said such practices often obstruct traffic and increase safety risks.

Furthermore, the ministry prohibited the dumping of refuse along highway corridors. It urged residents, commuters and transport operators to dispose of waste properly. Officials explained that clean road corridors improve safety, protect drainage systems and reduce environmental hazards.

Meanwhile, enforcement officers will patrol the highway to ensure motorists obey the new regulations. They will also educate road users about the restrictions before taking action against offenders where necessary.

Authorities have already installed road signs at strategic points along the route. The signs remind motorists of the new traffic rules and encourage full compliance with the directive.

The FG restricts motorcycles on the coastal highway as part of wider efforts to strengthen road management and protect public infrastructure. Officials believe the measure will reduce maintenance costs and preserve the highway’s quality over time.

According to Daily Post, Dare urged transport unions, commercial riders and other stakeholders to support the government’s decision. He said protecting national infrastructure requires cooperation from everyone who uses the road.

While on it,he also encouraged members of the public to follow all traffic regulations and avoid activities that could damage the highway. He stressed that responsible road use will help the project deliver long-term economic and transportation benefits.
