The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has accused the All Progressives Congress, APC, of treating the upcoming Osun State governorship election as a “do-or-die affair.”
According to daily post,The election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, August 15, 2026. The ADC made the allegation amid growing tension ahead of the poll.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, spoke on Wednesday during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time. He was reacting to a controversial statement allegedly made by Senator Francis Fadahunsi.
Fadahunsi represents Osun East Senatorial District in the National Assembly. A video circulating online showed the senator telling supporters to “go and kill” members of the Accord Party.
The comment has sparked criticism across the political space. Fadahunsi later offered an explanation for the statement. He claimed that his words were taken out of context.
According to him, he was only urging his supporters to defeat the Accord Party at the polls. However, Abdullahi rejected the explanation.
The ADC spokesman insisted that the senator’s statement should not be dismissed as ordinary political rhetoric. He argued that the comment reflected the level of desperation surrounding the election.
“The Osun election is a do-or-die affair to the APC,” Abdullahi said.
He also insisted that Fadahunsi’s “go and kill them” remark was not a metaphor.
The ADC spokesman further linked the senator’s comments to the political atmosphere created by the APC leadership.
He claimed that politicians could feel encouraged to make inflammatory statements because of the messages coming from those in power. Abdullahi specifically mentioned President Bola Tinubu while making the allegation.
“I don’t blame the senator for saying what he said; I blame the president because he got his authorisation from the president,” he stated.
He also alleged that comments about doing whatever is necessary to win elections have contributed to the current political atmosphere.
The ADC has repeatedly called for a peaceful and credible election in Osun State. The party is challenging the APC and other political parties in Saturday’s contest.
Governor Ademola Adeleke is seeking another term in office. The APC is also mounting a strong challenge with its candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
The ADC candidate, Najeem Salam, is among the other major contenders in the race. The election has already generated considerable political tension across the state.
Political parties have traded accusations over alleged attacks, intimidation and other forms of electoral misconduct. With voting only days away, concerns about security and political violence have continued to dominate discussions.
Stakeholders have therefore urged politicians and their supporters to exercise restraint. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is expected to conduct the election across the state.
Security agencies are also expected to provide protection for voters, electoral officials and other stakeholders. The ADC’s latest allegation adds another layer to the tension surrounding the election.
The party has urged voters to reject violence and protect the democratic process. As Osun residents prepare to vote, the focus will now shift from campaign promises to the conduct of the election itself.
The outcome will determine whether Adeleke retains the governorship or whether the APC or another opposition party takes control of the state.
