The EFCC has declared former pension boss Abdulrasheed Maina wanted again over alleged receiving of stolen properties.
Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC), has officially declared the former chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, wanted again.
The anti-corruption body published a fresh public wanted notice on its official online channels and media portals on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, asking citizens across all states in Nigeria to report his location to the nearest police station or security office immediately.
This new declaration comes as a surprise to many Nigerians because a Federal High Court in Abuja tried, convicted, and sentenced Maina to 61 years in prison in November 2021 over a massive N2.1 billion money laundering case.
The reason why the anti-corruption agency decided to declare Maina wanted again is tied to fresh criminal allegations involving receiving stolen property.
Security officers explained that while investigating other connected fraud cases and tracking hidden assets bought with public funds, new evidence came out linking the former pension boss to illegal property deals that violate Nigerian laws.
The anti-graft body explained that it needs to bring Maina back into custody to answer questions in court regarding these newly discovered stolen items and hidden wealth.
Giving official details about the public search notice, the Head of Media and Publicity for the EFCC, Mr. Dele Oyewale, released a formal statement explaining who the suspect is and why the public must help security forces locate him.
Pasting the official details on the notice for all citizens to see, the anti-corruption spokesman declared, “The public is hereby notified that Abdulrasheed Abdullahi Maina, whose photograph appears above, is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in an alleged case of Receiving Stolen Property”.
Describing the suspect so that everyday people can recognize him easily in public places, the official statement added, “Maina, 61, is an indigene of Biu in Borno State”.
Calling on anyone with useful information about where Maina is hiding to speak up quickly, the EFCC spokesman stated, “Anybody with useful information as to his whereabouts should please contact the Commission in its Ibadan, Uyo, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Benin, Makurdi, Kaduna, Ilorin, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Gombe, Port Harcourt or Abuja offices”.
Citizens are following the case closely. Legal experts note that Maina had previously jumped bail during his main court trial in 2020 before he was caught in Niger Republic and brought back to Nigeria by security agents.
