Armed militants in Rivers State asked Burna Boy and Soso Soberekon to talk to government for amnesty so they can surrender weapons.
A group of armed militants operating in the Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State has released a viral video message asking Grammy winning music star Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, and entertainment executive Soso Soberekon to speak with the government on their behalf.
The viral clip, which began circulating heavily on social media platforms on Thursday, September 17, 2026, shows the fighters, identified as the Ekpeye Freedom Fighters, standing together with their weapons.
In the video message, the group expressed a strong desire to stop fighting, drop their guns, and return to normal civilian life if the federal and state governments grant them official amnesty and pardon.
Reacting to the development on Friday, September 18, 2026, social activist Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, described the event as a historic milestone, noting that it is extremely rare in Nigerian history for an armed group to offer to surrender their weapons through a famous music celebrity.
The primary reason why the fighters decided to call on Burna Boy and Soso Soberekon is the positive community work, student scholarships, and local development projects the two entertainment figures have brought to Ahoada West communities in recent times.
The militants explained that they trust the musician and the entertainment boss to negotiate fair peace terms with government leaders so that former fighters can receive proper job training and re-enter society safely without fear of arrest or harm.

In recent months, security issues across oil producing communities in the Niger Delta have led to calls for peaceful talks, and this unexpected peace offer from the fighters opens a fresh path to ending local violence in the region.
Reacting to the surprising video message, social media commentator VeryDarkMan expressed total astonishment at the development.
Highlighting how unusual it is for armed fighters to trust a music superstar for peace talks, VeryDarkMan wrote, “Woke up to this video where armed militants in Ahoada West LGA of Rivers State were calling on BURNABOY @burnaboygram to help them speak with the government to grant them amnesty and in exchange they are ready to lay down their arms with whatever terms and conditions Burnaboy and SOSO @sososoberekon decide….”.
Stressing that Nigerians are watching a unique event happen for the first time, he added, “I will say this has never been seen before in Nigeria where militants are willing to lay down arms on terms of a public figure….(WE ARE WITNESSING HISTORY IN THE MAKING)”.
The group praised both Burna Boy and Soso Soberekon for caring about the well being of the youth in Ahoada West. Security experts note that if government authorities step in to handle the peace request properly, it could bring lasting peace and safety to many rural communities across Rivers State.
