Baraje Tells APC Governors: You Are Only Tenants in Government Houses

Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Kawu Baraje, has reminded governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) that political power does not last forever.

According to Daily Post, Baraje made the remark while speaking about Nigeria’s political situation and the need for leaders to remember that public office is temporary.

Baraje described APC governors as “tenants” in government houses, stressing that their time in office will eventually come to an end. He said occupying a government house should not make governors forget the people who gave them the mandate to lead.

The former PDP chairman urged political leaders to treat their positions as opportunities to serve Nigerians rather than as personal possessions. He also reminded governors that political power can change hands, regardless of how secure their positions may appear today.

Baraje’s comment comes amid ongoing political discussions about leadership, accountability and the future direction of Nigerian politics. He stressed that elected officials should remain focused on the welfare of the people while they have the opportunity to serve.

According to him, political office comes with responsibility, and those in power should always remember that another person will eventually take over from them.

The former PDP chairman’s remarks also serve as a reminder to politicians not to become too comfortable with the privileges that come with public office.

He encouraged leaders to use their time in government to make meaningful contributions instead of treating their positions as permanent. Baraje’s statement adds to the wider conversation about political power and accountability in Nigeria.

His message was clear: government houses are temporary homes for elected officials, and every governor will eventually leave office.

He therefore urged those currently in power to remember the people they represent and make the most of their time in office.
