Rivers State Police Command removed the Abuloma DPO after suspected cult members renovated a police outpost and held a celebration at the facility.

The Rivers State Police Command has officially queried and removed the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Abuloma Division alongside the officer supervising the local police outpost, after suspected cult group members renovated the police building and visited the station to celebrate the finished work.

The police command took immediate action on Friday, October 16, 2026, following a viral video circulating on social media networks that showed group members gathered outside the newly painted facility alongside smiling police personnel.

The incident occurred on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at the Abuloma Police Outpost in Port Harcourt, where individuals wearing white shirts, black trousers, red caps, and black berets gathered to celebrate the handover of the renovated station building while chanting group slogans.

Reacting swiftly to the viral video and public outcry, the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, condemned the incident and ordered a full investigation to find out which officers allowed suspected criminal elements to sponsor work on a government security building.

Issuing an official press release to explain the administrative action taken by the command leadership, the Command Spokesperson, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, stated: “The Rivers State Police Command has queried and relieved the DPO in charge of Abuloma Division and the officer overseeing the outpost after suspected cultists reportedly renovated the facility and visited to celebrate its completion.”

The police spokesperson made it clear that police stations across the country are public law enforcement centers built to protect innocent citizens and enforce laws, not places for criminal organizations to seek public image wash or political influence.

Highlighting the firm position of the police leadership against criminal associations, the official police statement noted: “The police, led by Commissioner of Police Olugbenga A. Adepoju, condemned actions capable of undermining the integrity, discipline and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force.”

The command emphasized that while local communities are allowed to help improve police facilities, all help must follow strict government rules without spoiling police independence.

Explaining the strict rules guiding public donations to the police force under the laws of the country, the command stated: “It cited Section 26(1)(d) of the Nigeria Police Act 2020, which provides for gifts and contributions to the Police General Fund, noting that donations must follow the applicable legal and administrative framework.”

Reassuring the public that donating money or repainting a police building does not protect any criminal group from arrest or court prosecution, the police command added: “The Command emphasised that no donation would confer immunity from investigation or prosecution. Officers found culpable would face disciplinary measures, while legal action would follow where warranted.”

To ensure that full justice is served, Commissioner of Police Olugbenga A. Adepoju directed investigators to find out who paid for the renovation work, identify the officers who approved the project, and check whether any police personnel broke professional ethics.

The command has urged residents of Rivers State to stay calm and keep sharing helpful information with security agencies to tackle cultism across the state.
