The Ilobu killing has sparked a fresh war of words between the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Governor Ademola Adeleke’s campaign council.
Both sides condemned the death of 14-year-old Ezekiel Olapade, who was reportedly killed during a violent incident in Ilobu. However, they disagree on who should bear responsibility for the growing tension in the state.
The APC accused Adeleke’s camp of turning a painful tragedy into a political issue. According to the party, the governor’s visit to the teenager’s family should have remained a simple condolence visit rather than an event with political undertones.

Adeleke’s campaign council fired back almost immediately. The council alleged that individuals linked to the opposition party were responsible for recent acts of violence across parts of the state.
It maintained that the APC was attempting to shift attention from the real causes of insecurity. The council further argued that elections should be decided by voters and not by fear, threats or attacks.
Meanwhile, residents expressed concern over the rising political temperature in the state. Many called for restraint from political actors and urged security agencies to prevent further violence.
The Ilobu killing has also renewed conversations about safety ahead of the governorship election. Political observers warn that inflammatory statements and accusations could worsen tensions if not handled carefully.
Despite their sharp differences, both camps agree on one issue. They want those responsible for the teenager’s death to face justice.
