Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has declared a three-day mourning period following the death of former Governor Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, describing his passing as a profound loss to both the state and the nation.
In a directive issued to honor the late leader, Governor Ododo ordered that the national flag and the Kogi State flag be flown at half-mast across all government offices and designated public institutions throughout the mourning period. Furthermore, he announced that the former governor will be accorded a full state burial, with the Kogi State Government assuming complete responsibility for all associated expenses and arrangements to ensure he receives the highest honors befitting his office.
A statement by the State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, confirmed that Governor Ododo had personally visited the residence of the late Alhaji Ibrahim Idris in Abuja to commiserate with the grieving family and offer his immediate support during this difficult time.

In a formal condolence letter addressed to the family, Governor Ododo praised Idris, who governed Kogi State from 2003 to 2011, as an “eminent son” who devoted a significant portion of his life to the service of the people. He highlighted the former governor’s impactful interventions in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and institutional growth, noting that the footprint of his administration remains a vital part of the state’s developmental history.
“His years in public office formed an important chapter in the political and developmental journey of Kogi State,” Governor Ododo stated. He emphasized that beyond the tangible projects and policies of his tenure, Idris will be fondly remembered for his unwavering commitment to the responsibilities entrusted to him by the electorate.
