Nigerian music star Burna Boy made history as the first Nigerian artist to present an award at the prestigious Ballon d’Or ceremony.

The global entertainment industry and music lovers across Africa have erupted in wild celebration after famous Nigerian singer and songwriter Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, known globally as Burna Boy, reached a major milestone: becoming the first Nigerian artist to present an award at the prestigious Ballon d’Or ceremony.

The star-studded international sports event took place on Monday night, October 26, 2026, at the famous London Palladium during the landmark 70th edition of football’s most celebrated individual honors.

The grand ceremony brought together top football legends, club owners, and global celebrities to celebrate the finest talents in world soccer.

This special year marked a major change in tradition as organizers decided to move the annual award show away from its usual home in Paris to London, honoring seventy years since England’s legendary player Stanley Matthews won the very first Ballon d’Or trophy back in 1956.

During the grand evening, the Grammy-winning Afrobeats icon stepped onto the bright stage to present the respected Sócrates Award, which recognizes professional footballers who use their wealth, fame, and personal influence to support charity work and improve lives in their local communities.

The special prize was handed over by the Nigerian music superstar to Arsenal and England star forward Bukayo Saka, who earned global praise for his amazing humanitarian contributions and charity projects.

Looking ahead with great optimism and inspiring millions of young boys and girls watching the broadcast across the world, the musician added: “Hopefully, inshallah, one day I’ll come back here to see one of my people getting an award in Ballon d’Or.”

The moment drew loud applause from everyone in the hall, including famous event hosts and football legends who praised the singer for using his platform to support community development and youth empowerment.

Sports fans and music lovers took to various social media platforms to express their pride, noting that the historic appearance proves how far African artists have climbed on the global entertainment map.

The singer continues to break international barriers through his remarkable music career and global cultural presence.
