Popular Nigerian movie star Chiwetalu Agu has shared crucial advice with young men and women regarding relationships, moral choices, and how society treats people differently.
Speaking in a recent message shared across social media platforms, the respected Nollywood actor warned people not to follow others blindly, explaining that two people can do the exact same wrong thing but end up suffering very different consequences.
The veteran actor highlighted how society judges men and women using completely different rules when it comes to their romantic history.
He pointed out that while a man can have many lovers without facing severe public shame, a woman who engages in similar actions often faces harsh judgment that can ruin her chances of getting married later in life. Breaking down this unfair situation in clear terms, he explained:
“A man can sleep with 30 to 40 women and still end up with a woman who is ready to settle down with him. A woman can sleep with 7 to 10 men and end up being rejected, simply because of her past.”
The famous movie star explained that society often searches for proof regarding a woman’s background while ignoring what the man has done in his own past.
He noted that even though the act committed by both sides is the same, the judgment from family and community members is never equal. Talking about this imbalance in public opinion, Chiwetalu Agu stated:
“People don’t always face the same social consequences for the same behavior. The behavior is the same, but the consequences are different a perceived double standard in sexual history.”

“You are doing drugs with a rich man’s child. Tomorrow, when things go wrong, they will fly him abroad for treatment and rehab, while you pick up a cutlass and start chasing us around Ogbete Main Market.”

He stressed that people must look at their own background before following their friends to do bad things. He explained that some individuals have strong safety nets to protect them, while others have nothing to fall back on if things go bad. Speaking on how people differ in terms of wealth and protection, he added:
“Don’t assume that because someone is doing something with you, that you will both suffer the consequences equally. We are all humans, but some humans have more to lose than others. Not all humans are treated the same.”
The movie star ended his talk by encouraging young people to think about tomorrow whenever they want to make any decision today.
He urged everyone to check if they have what it takes to survive the bad results of their actions before jumping in. Leaving his audience with a strong piece of wisdom, Chiwetalu Agu concluded:
