An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, of focusing more on political attacks than on solving the daily challenges Abuja residents face.
In a statement released on Saturday, September 27, 2026, Yakubu Sani, founder of the Arewa Mandate Alliance (AMA), called on the minister to return his focus to the core mandate given to him by President Bola Tinubu.
Sani criticized Wike for using public events to target political opponents, specifically pointing to recent criticisms of Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma. “Wike should learn from Uzodimma. The Imo governor is working and organising quietly without abusing anybody. He is concentrating on governance, delivering projects and organising the largest support base for the President,” Sani said.
The chieftain argued that infrastructure projects should be about community development, not political scoring. He warned that Wike’s increasingly combative rhetoric could overshadow the actual progress being made in the nation’s capital.
“Every road and bridge commissioned in Abuja should be an opportunity to talk about development, not an occasion to abuse or denigrate perceived obstacles to his unbridled and rabid political ambition,” Sani stated.

He further stressed that building roads is not enough if basic public services are failing. Sani pointed to inadequate water supply, indiscriminate parking, and poor refuse disposal as major issues affecting residents and motorists.
“Many FCT residents don’t have water, while motorists compete with refuse dumps for space on major roads in the city,” he noted. “You cannot build beautiful roads and bridges and ignore the people who teach our children, treat our sick and run the machinery of the government. Their welfare should also be a priority.”
Sani advised the minister to let the quality of his work speak for itself, rather than using commissioning ceremonies to attack fellow party members who are committed to the president’s re-election.
These comments come amid ongoing friction between Wike and several APC governors, who have accused the FCT minister of playing to the gallery. His remarks serve as a clear warning that governance, rather than political confrontation, must remain the central focus of his tenure if he hopes to strengthen his political standing.
