Isa Salihu Bashir Kalanjeni, Executive Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area in Sokoto State, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and stepped down from office. The decision marks a major political development in the state.
According to Daily Post, Kalanjeni announced his exit in two separate letters made available to journalists in Sokoto.
In the first letter, dated May 5, 2026, he informed the APC Ward Chairman of Kalanjeni Ward that he was ending his membership of the ruling party. Sokoto council chairman resigns after citing personal reasons for leaving the APC. He also thanked the party for giving him the opportunity to serve under its platform.
Meanwhile, in another letter dated July 7, 2026, Kalanjeni notified the Secretary to the Sokoto State Government and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs of his resignation as Executive Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area.
He explained that the decision followed consultations with his family, political associates and community stakeholders. In addition, he said recent administrative challenges had affected his ability to carry out his duties effectively.
Furthermore, the former council chairman expressed appreciation to the people of Tangaza, members of the legislative council and council staff for their support during his tenure. He wished the incoming leadership success in moving the local government forward.
Sokoto council chairman resigns at a time when political realignments continue to shape the country’s landscape. However, neither the Sokoto State Government nor the APC had issued an official response as of the time this report was filed.
