Bashir Ahmad has fired back at Rabiu Kwankwaso after the former Kano governor criticised the APC’s campaign structure ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
According to Daily Post, Kwankwaso questioned the composition of the APC Presidential Campaign Council and urged its Director-General, Abdul’aziz Yari, to reconsider accepting the role.
Ahmad, a former presidential aide, disagreed with Kwankwaso’s position. He said Nigerians should not view the 2027 election only through the lens of the oppressed and the oppressors.
Instead, Ahmad urged voters to examine the records, policies and plans of the political parties. He made his position known in a post on his verified X handle. Kwankwaso had described the coming election as a contest between the “oppressed” and the “oppressors.”
He also questioned the decision of Yari to lead the APC campaign council. But Ahmad defended Yari’s choice. He argued that the former Zamfara governor has enough political experience to decide whether to accept the responsibility.
Ahmad also challenged the idea that accepting the campaign role makes Yari responsible for every problem facing the country. According to him, Nigerians have the right to demand better governance. They also have the right to assess every political option before voting.
He urged voters to focus on performance rather than political labels. For Ahmad, the 2027 election should be about ideas, records and competing visions for Nigeria. The exchange adds a fresh twist to the growing political battle ahead of the election.
The APC has already begun building its campaign structure. President Bola Tinubu will chair the council, while Yari will serve as Director-General. Kwankwaso’s criticism has now drawn a direct response from the APC camp.
With the 2027 race gathering momentum, more clashes between rival political camps are likely. For now, Ahmad has made his position clear. He wants Nigerians to judge the contenders by what they have done and what they plan to do.
