Former PDP presidential campaign spokesman, Segun Sowunmi, believes the 2027 presidential election may come down to two familiar faces.
Sowunmi sees Tinubu and Atiku as the leading figures ahead of the next presidential contest. He said current political developments suggest both politicians could emerge as the main contenders when Nigerians return to the polls.
According to Daily Post, Sowunmi shared his view while discussing the country’s political landscape and the growing preparations for the 2027 election.
He argued that President Bola Tinubu remains a major force in Nigerian politics. Despite criticism from opposition parties, Tinubu still controls a powerful political structure across the country.
Sowunmi also said former Vice President Atiku Abubakar should not be underestimated. He noted that Atiku has remained active in national politics for years and continues to command support in many parts of Nigeria.
As a result, Sowunmi sees Tinubu and Atiku as politicians with the strongest chance of leading the race. He explained that both men have built extensive political networks and enjoy nationwide recognition.
However, he believes those advantages could become decisive as political parties begin to finalize their strategies for the next election cycle.
However, Sowunmi admitted that politics can change quickly. New alliances, defections and coalition talks could still reshape the contest before 2027.
Even so, he maintained that Tinubu and Atiku currently stand out from the rest of the field. He said other hopefuls may find it difficult to match their experience, influence and political reach.
The prediction comes as discussions about the 2027 election continue to gain momentum. Political observers have already started debating possible candidates and alliances.
