Over 100 youth football teams entered, but only 18 finalists emerged for the TFA Future Liga 2026 Grand Finale in Lagos this August.
Over 100 youth football teams across Lagos entered a tough playoff journey with one simple dream: earning a spot on the biggest stage of grassroots football.
After weeks of intense matches, brilliant saves, and crucial goals, only 18 talented teams have emerged to play in the Grand Finale of the TFA Future Liga 2026.
The main event takes place from August 24 to 29, 2026, where the best young players will finally meet to show their skills, courage, and teamwork.
For these young players, getting to this point was not easy. Every single game mattered, and every decision on the field could make or break their dream.

The qualifying round proved to be a real test of character for every academy that entered.
At the end of the competition, top academies like PASS FA, Blazer Football Academy, The Future Academy, FIT Youngsters Sports Academy, Mainlander FC, Bright Future Stars, Young Stars FA, Elite Touch FA, Varsity FA, Fortune FA, Strong Dove Football Academy, Excellent Star Football Academy, Adhoc Football Academy, Gaiters FC, and Dazzle FC secured their places alongside three other finalist teams.
The Grand Finale will feature young players in the Under 11 and Under 13 categories competing in fast paced 6 a side matches.
For many of these boys, this is their very first chance to test their skills against top teams outside their immediate neighborhoods. Organizers emphasize that the competition is designed to build complete human beings, not just trophy winners.
According to The Guardian Nigeria, The Future Academy Director Fabio Abiola highlighted the deeper purpose of the tournament, noting that “The Future Liga is more than a football tournament; it’s a platform to let our kids shine, to give them a chance to experience the values of teamwork, discipline, and leadership.”
Abiola added that “these boys have ability, but ability needs structure,” emphasizing that proper platforms allow young athletes to grow on and off the pitch.
The core idea behind the event is simple: Play, Develop, Compete. Beyond winning medals, the event gives scouts, coaches, and family members a clear look at Nigeria’s next generation of football talent.
It also helps young boys build lifelong friendships, learn resilience from mistakes, and grow in confidence.
From more than 100 hopeful teams down to 18 final contenders, every team in the finals has truly earned its place on the field.
As the matches start on August 24, the pitch will become a stage for young stars to shine, express themselves, and show that the future of Nigerian football is already here.
