Getting a federal appointment after the 2027 election may come down to one thing for APC members in Abia: votes.
According to Daily Post, the Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has warned members seeking federal appointments to first prove their ability to deliver their polling units, wards or constituencies for the party.
The warning came from the Abia APC chairman, Chijioke Chukwu, during a reconciliation meeting at the party secretariat in Umuahia.
Chukwu said the party would closely track the performance of its members during the 2027 election. He said results from polling units, wards and constituencies linked to party leaders and stakeholders would be recorded.
The records, he explained, would later be presented to the party’s national leadership. That could make electoral performance a key factor in deciding who gets political appointments after the election.
Chukwu warned members not to rely solely on their political connections in Abuja. He said anyone seeking positions such as minister or federal commissioner must show that they can deliver votes for the APC.
The warning could raise the stakes for party members already positioning themselves for appointments. It also puts pressure on APC leaders and stakeholders to build stronger structures ahead of the 2027 polls.
Chukwu further urged members to put internal disagreements aside and focus on strengthening the party. He cautioned House of Assembly candidates and other stakeholders against actions that could weaken the APC or benefit rival parties.
Meanwhile, APC member Sam Anya said party members in Ohafia had started working to strengthen the party’s structure. He said the group was determined to deliver President Bola Tinubu and other APC candidates in the state.
The party is also trying to resolve disputes within its ranks before the election. Chukwu has constituted a peace committee led by Madukwe Ukaegbu to help settle disagreements among members.
With 2027 drawing closer, the APC’s new position sends a clear message to members seeking federal appointments. Their political connections may open doors, but their ability to deliver votes could determine whether those doors remain open.
