FCT Minister Nyesom Wike fires back at former governor Rotimi Amaechi, accusing him of looting Rivers State treasury and buying houses for young girls.

It Is Better To Be Childless Than Have One That Will Use My Death To Play Politics ~ Nyesom Wike Blasts Rotimi Amaechi

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has blasted Rotimi Amaechi for using his late mother’s death to play politics against President Bola Tinubu.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has hit back very hard at the former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi.

Wike said he was very angry that Amaechi brought his late mother, Mary Amaechi, into political arguments. He said it is wrong to use the death of a parent to fight political battles.

This big fight started after Amaechi went on. Amaechi, who is running for Vice-President under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 election, blamed President Bola Tinubu for his mother’s health problems.

Amaechi claimed that because of the new rules and policies brought by President Tinubu’s government, life became very hard and he could no longer buy the drugs his sick mother needed.

In his words on television, Amaechi said, “Tinubu’s policies killed my mother. Before Tinubu came, my mother was healthy. After 2023, it was difficult for me to buy drugs for my mother.”

Wike replied to Amaechi on Saturday, October 3, 2026, while speaking to a crowd of people at the Uzugbani Ekpeye National Executive Council meeting in Ahoada, Rivers State.

Wike said anyone who watched Amaechi on television would feel very sad because a mother who has died should be left to rest in peace.

Expressing his pain over the matter, Wike told the crowd, “You know it is unfortunate… that we must respect our parents, but anybody who watched television last night will cry when somebody is bringing his own mother to play politics. Your mother, whom we thought should be resting peacefully.”

Wike also talked about another video where Amaechi said his mother would be happy in heaven if his new political party, the ADC, wins the presidential election in 2027. Wike mocked the statement and insisted that Amaechi’s party will never win the election.

“In one of the videos, he said if ADC wins the election, his mother will be very happy,” Wike said. “So, the only condition is that his mother will not be happy if ADC does not win. Too bad! She will not be happy if ADC doesn’t win. But ADC will not win. No way! How can you bring a loved one who just died into politics?”

Wike said it was impossible to believe that a man like Amaechi could lack money to buy simple medicine for his own mother.

He pointed out that Amaechi had held top government jobs in Nigeria for 24 years, earning good money and making rich friends.

Wike reminded the people that Amaechi was the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly for 8 years (from 1999 to 2007), the Governor of Rivers State for 8 years (from 2007 to 2015), and a Minister of Transportation for 8 years (from 2015 to 2023).

“This was a speaker for eight years… this was a governor for eight years… this was a minister for eight years… and your mother was sick, and you are telling the whole world that because of the policy you couldn’t buy drugs for your mother,” Wike said.

Wike went further to say that even if Amaechi did not have money, he had many rich friends who own private jets that could have helped him buy the medicine.

Wike asked why Amaechi failed to reach out to his associates for support if he was truly broke.

“Yet, you didn’t know that you had friends who had private jets, who would come down to bury a mother whom you could not buy drugs for, for her to survive? You didn’t tell them, ‘My mother was sick; can you help me? Give me money, let me buy drugs,'” Wike added.

Wike condemned using family sorrow to win voters’ sympathy. He warned that no child should treat their parents’ memory that way.

“Unfortunately, people can descend so low as to use their mother to play politics,” Wike said. “Instead of me having such a child, may I be childless.”
